In all branches of engineering the various physical quantities are measured and often regulated to specified values:
pressure, temperature, flow rate, weight, speed, power, voltage, current, etc.

More generally, the aim of the measurement technology is to gather information about the state of a system, while the control engineering is concerned with the control and regulation of energy and material flows with the aim of influencing the state of a system in a desired manner.
